Terms of Service

Version 2 · Last updated 2 October 2026.

These terms are the agreement between a user and Peridot's operator, Ken “Krysion” Nisaka, for using peridot.krysion.com (“Peridot”). Creating an account or using the site means accepting them; anyone who does not accept them should not use Peridot. How personal data is handled is explained in the Privacy Policy, and browser storage in the Cookie Policy.

1. Who can use Peridot

  • Users must be at least 16 years old.
  • Peridot is a private community. Visitors see a short preview and posts shared with them by link; posting, replying, reacting, following, and reporting in the app need an account with a verified email address.
  • The email address must be real and under the user's control, and the password must be kept private. The account holder is responsible for what happens under the account, and should tell the operator straight away if it was taken over.
  • Accounts created by scripts or bots are removed.

2. Content

  • It stays yours. Every right a member has in what they post remains theirs.
  • What Peridot needs. By posting, a member gives the operator a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to store, display, resize, and distribute the content in and around Peridot for as long as it is on the site. That includes link previews, such as a post shown in a Discord message. The licence ends when the content is deleted, apart from copies that cannot be removed straight away, such as caches.
  • Responsibility. A member confirms that they have the right to post what they post, and that it does not break the law or anyone else's rights.
  • Other people's work. Only pictures, video, audio, and text that belong to the member, or that they are allowed to share, may be posted, with credit where credit is due.

3. Rules

The following is not allowed on Peridot:

  • Anything illegal, including content that sexualises minors, terrorism, or incitement to violence.
  • Harassment, threats, stalking, doxxing, or hate aimed at people for who they are, such as their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, or age.
  • Pornography or extremely graphic violence.
  • Impersonating another person or organisation in a way meant to deceive, or pretending to be part of the Peridot team. Parody and satire are allowed, as long as it is clear that it is a parody: the name, bio, or posts must make that plain. A parody account should mark itself with the Parody account badge (Edit profile); the operator may also add it; an account that imitates someone without being clearly a parody can be treated as impersonation.
  • Spam, scams, phishing, malware, or unsolicited advertising.
  • Publishing other people's private information or pictures without their permission.
  • Overloading the site with bots or scrapers, probing it for weaknesses without permission, or working around a suspension.

4. Moderation

This section is how Peridot applies the EU Digital Services Act (DSA). Peridot is a small hosting service run by one person: it follows the rules for every hosting service (reporting, explaining decisions, working with authorities) and, of its own accord, offers appeals as well. The operator may be helped by members of the Peridot team, who carry the Peridot team badge and can take the same decisions on the operator's behalf.

  • Blocking. Any member can block another account, from its profile, a post's menu, a reply, or right after reporting it. A block works both ways: neither of the two sees the other's posts and replies in feeds, and the blocked person cannot follow the blocker, reply to their posts or replies, react to them, or send them notifications. Both stop following each other. The blocked person is not told, but sees that they are blocked if they open the blocker's profile. A block can be lifted at any time from Settings, Blocked accounts. Blocking is not a report: to have something looked at, report it as well.
  • Reporting. Every post and reply has a Report option in its menu, and every profile has a flag button. Pick a reason (spam, scams, harassment, hate, threats, terrorism, graphic violence, nudity, child safety, self-harm, other illegal content, private information, copyright, harmful false information, impersonation, an under-16 account, a fake or bot account, suspension evasion, or something else), add details, and confirm in good faith that the report is accurate. Reports go to the operator only, the person reported is not told who reported, and the reporter gets a notification with the outcome.
  • Reporting without an account. Anyone can report illegal content by email to hello@krysion.com, with: the exact address (link) of the content; why it is illegal, and under which law if known; the reporter's name and email address (not needed for reports of child sexual abuse material); and a statement that they believe in good faith that the report is accurate and complete. Receipt is confirmed, and the reporter is told the decision and how to challenge it.
  • How reports are handled. A person, the operator, looks at every report promptly, carefully, and objectively. No automated tools are used to find, judge, or remove content. The only automated check on Peridot is the bot check when signing in or up (Privacy Policy, section 9).
  • What can happen. Content that is illegal or breaks section 3 can be hidden (gone from the site at once, with a private copy kept for six months so it can come back if an appeal succeeds, then erased), or deleted for good (for material that must not be kept). An account can be suspended for a set time or until the suspension is lifted. While it lasts, its profile shows only its handle and “Account suspended”, its posts and replies are hidden from everyone (a reply that others answered stays as a line saying it is from a suspended account), and it is left out of lists of people. The suspended member sees a screen with the reasons, the appeal, and their other decisions, and can still sign in, appeal, accept new terms, and download or delete their data, but cannot use the rest of Peridot. When the suspension ends, everything comes back as it was. Serious or repeated breaches can lead to the account being closed. Measures are proportionate to what happened, and take into account the rights of everyone involved, including freedom of expression.
  • Statement of reasons. Every member affected is told, through a notification that cannot be turned off and a record under Settings, Moderation decisions: what was done and for how long; the rule in these terms, or the law, that it breaks; the facts; whether it followed a report; that a person decided, with no automated tools; and how to challenge it. The only exception is bulk commercial spam, which the law exempts.
  • Appeals. Each decision can be appealed once, free of charge, for six months, from the decision itself. A person looks at it again and the member is told the outcome with reasons. If the decision was wrong, it is reversed: the content comes back, or the suspension ends.
  • Courts. A member or a reporter can always take a decision to court: the courts of the Netherlands, or, for a consumer, the courts where they live.
  • Misuse. Someone who often posts clearly illegal content, or often sends clearly unfounded reports, can, after a warning, be suspended or have their reports set aside for a reasonable time.
  • Crimes and authorities. Information suggesting a criminal offence that threatens someone's life or safety is passed to the police or other competent authorities, as the law requires. Orders from authorities to act against illegal content, or to provide information, are followed, and the member concerned is told unless the order says otherwise.
  • Copyright. If something on Peridot infringes a copyright, the rights holder (or someone acting for them) can email the address above saying what it is and where it is. It will be looked at promptly.

5. Third-party services

Some content comes from other services: GIFs from KLIPY and videos from YouTube. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to those parts, and Peridot is not responsible for what they publish.

6. A free hobby project

  • Peridot is free and run in spare time. It is provided as is, with no promise that it will always be available, free of errors, or kept forever. Features can change, and the site may be paused, moved, or closed. Where possible, members get notice first.
  • Anything that matters should be saved by the member as well.
  • To the extent the law allows, the operator is not liable for loss of data or for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, such as liability for intent or gross negligence or for injury to life, body, or health, or any right a consumer has under the mandatory law of their own country.

7. Ending use

  • A member can stop using Peridot at any time. Settings, Your data, Delete account erases the account and its data straight away (see the Privacy Policy, sections 6 and 8), even when the account is suspended. A copy of the data can be downloaded first, in the same place.
  • The operator may suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms, as described in section 4, or close accounts that are unverified or long inactive.

8. Changes to these terms

The terms may change, for example when a feature is added. Each version has a number and a date (at the top), and every earlier version is kept, word for word, and listed at the end of this page. When a change matters to members, they are told on the site and asked to accept the new version before going on. Anyone who does not accept can sign out, or download their data and delete their account from the same box. A correction that changes nothing for anyone, such as a typo, gets a new version without asking.

9. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by Dutch law. A consumer keeps the protection of the mandatory consumer law of their own country and may bring a dispute before the courts where they live; otherwise the courts of the Netherlands are competent. If something goes wrong, please write to hello@krysion.com first; most problems can be settled by talking.

10. Contact

Questions, reports, and requests: hello@krysion.com. This address is also Peridot's single point of contact for members (DSA Article 12) and for the authorities of the EU member states, the European Commission, and the European Board for Digital Services (DSA Article 11). Messages are answered by a person, in English or Dutch.
